Demolish Update: Nov 2020

Zubeir, our local architect and contractor born and bred in Shela shares our first update. Since collecting 1/4 of our intended funds we have demolished the school and have enough to set the foundations down. We need YOUR help to complete the project!

Mohammad Ahmad Recites

From Madrasatul Huda, a brilliant young student gifted with a voice that’ll touch your heart. His great grandfather was the one that initiated this school in Shela, Kenya. In Q1 of 2020, we aim to launch a campaign to raise funds to rebuild the school, that it’s quality can compare to that of the phenomenal education provided.

Musa Interview

This young man I absolutely brilliant. One of the few students who ALSO teaches others. He also knows some English, so we were able to conduct this interview without a translator.

This is a small clip from a longer interview where he shares his most recent lesson in tafseer of suraht Ibraheem. I’m telling you, the level of education these kids are getting is some of the BEST the world has to offer. Please enjoy.

“Zamanun Jameel” Nasheed

I would love to share with you this Nasheed (Islamic song) about how following the tenants and practices of Islam leads to a beautiful life. You will notice Ahmad Mohammad (reciter of the Quran in an earlier post) is on the center.

These boys have been so hospitable and enjoyable. I’m falling in love with them and their families day by day.

Night School

When we talk about a way of life, we envision dedication and conviction. Guys, I cannot state this enough, these kids are glowing gems who work so hard and are committed to perfecting their craft and knowledge.

Their schedule starts at dawn, learning and reciting after prayer. They get a break from about 7-9. School starts up until noon prayer, Duhur. At that point the sun is blazing and the entire island retires, including businesses. People hang out, eat, chill and even sleep. During the secular school year their school day would be split evenly between that and religious education.

However, here we see that school even resumes on the evening between sunset and complete sunset, Maghreb and Isha. This is what commitment looks like. Understanding that these are the words of God, Allaah and pursuing its memorisation and understanding is a deep endeavour.

Meet the Kids

A montage of a day in Madrasatul Huda. Get to know some of the kids, by name.
