Rebuilding the Foundations
The school’s building is in dire need of reconstruction. To preserve the level of education, culture and history, it is imperative we give future generations a space they are safe in and proud of. Explore our plans for rebuilding with Mohamed El-Sheikh and Zubeir Al-Ubeudy.
Documenting the People
Education happens within the context of a larger community. We believe that in order for us to better serve the students we must do our part in learning and understanding their context. This includes exploring local leaders, projects, cultures and even historic ruins.

Our vision is to provide educational and recreational space for the community that has been an oasis of Islamic scholarship and history for over 200 years. We believe that empowerment is nurtured in minds and hearts, and Madrasatul Huda has been nurturing the younger generations in the community since the 1950s. In a time where it’s more important than ever for youth to be of sound heart and mind, Madrasatul Huda plays a critical role in preserving the heritage in Lamu County. Our team of architects and community members have worked tirelessly to prepare plans for this beacon of knowledge, safety and security for generations to come.
Now all we need are the funds.
